The Again Again system uses wireless NFC technology on your device to borrow items, available on most modern devices. If your device does not support NFC it can unfortunately not be used to borrow containers.
If this is the case, the App Store and Google Play will serve you the message that your phone is incompatible', and won't allow you to download it.
What is NFC? Why do we use it?
NFC stands for Near-Field Communication, and it is a form of wireless communication that works over a distance of just 10cm or less via a radio frequency current. There is a good run down about it here.
In 2022, NFC technology is widespread in mobile devices, however older and economy models may not have this function. While we acknowledge that this makes Again Again's system inaccessible to some, we accept this limitation and won't be changing it.
NFC is significantly more secure than QR codes, and the increased functionality that we gain by utilising NFC - the ability to loan out more valuable items and to protect the value of these from theft or 'gaming' of the system - outweighs the slightly-reduced accessibility outcome.
What now?
I'm afraid that if your phone is not compatible, this is where the road stops... We're sorry that this excludes your phone, but not that we provide a secure and robust service. And remember that it is your phone, and not you, that we are excluding!
